Features: Stainless Steel Shackle – Cement Anchor – Extra Secure – Weatherproof – Compatible With Kryptonite Chain Locks
Even if you have a garage or a shed where you store any bikes that you own, there is still a chance that they may be stolen if either building gets broken into. Thieves will unfortunately target anything that isn’t secured. This is why you might want to think about getting a ground anchor, particularly if your bikes are of high value.
In order to help you choose the best anchor for you, we decided to test and review some and the one that we want to talk about today is the Kryptonite Ground Anchor. Having tested and reviewed plenty of their bike locks in the past, we were expecting good things and we were not disappointed. Please read on below for our honest verdict.
The Design of the Kryptonite Ground Anchor
We weren’t really sure what to expect from the design, given that there aren’t really that many different ground anchors on the market at the moment. So, the anchor itself is a dome shape with a shackle in the middle. The dome itself has to be fitted to a solid surface; we found that a concrete floor was the best option.
There are a few things that we really liked about the design of the Kryptonite Ground Anchor. First of all, we really like the way that the shackle lies flat in the anchor when it is not in use. This means that you don’t have to worry about anybody tripping over it, or the anchor puncturing or causing other damage to car tyres if anyone were to accidentally drive over it.
In terms of materials used, it is very obvious that high quality has been an important factor in the design of this ground anchor. The weighted part of the anchor has a nice finish to it with the Kryptonite logo clearly visible on the top. The shackle itself is made from strong stainless steel and certainly feels very durable.
Installing the Kryptonite Ground Anchor
Usually, we would test the portability of a bicycle lock that we review, but given the fact that this is meant to be a permanent fixture, there would be no point. Instead, we would like to talk about the installation process of the Kryptonite Ground Anchor.
What we expected to be quite the task was actually relatively easy. With the anchor, you are supplied with cement anchor bolts which allow you to fit the anchor directly into concrete. As we mentioned earlier, we chose to fit ours to a concrete garage floor, but you could also fit it to a wall or a trailer even.
The installation process was over a lot sooner than we had anticipated. With the right drill, it was simply a matter of drilling the holes in the right place and inserting the cement anchor bolts and the ground anchor was secured. We pulled at it a few times to double check and found no issues; it definitely felt like it wouldn’t go anywhere if a thief tried to remove it.
Using the Kryptonite Ground Anchor
Using the Kryptonite Ground Anchor really couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is pull the shackle up into the right position and fasten your bikes to it. One thing that is worth mentioning is that you will want to make sure that you have a high quality chain lock or U lock in order to make sure that the bike remains secured.
Kryptonite has a range of both, so you can choose the best option for you. For multiple bikes a chain would probably be your best option. Once you have removed your bikes from the ground anchor, you simply need to push the shackle down and it remains flat on the surface of the anchor itself until you are ready to use it again.
Overall, this is a great piece of kit for anyone who wants to make sure that their bikes remain secure at home. You never know when you might be the victim of a break in, and this is one very good way of maintaining the safety of your bikes.
